Good Friday Service of Tenebrae
St. Catwg's Church, Llangattock
Friday 29th March at 2:00pm
The traditional service of Tenebrae will be held again this year in Llangattock to mark Good Friday
The word Tenebrae (or 'shadows') references the conspicuous feature of the service, in which candles are gradually extinguished, until only a single light source remains. This stands for the light of Christ as a reassuring sign of hope amidst the darkness.
The haunting polyphony of Thomas Tallis will provide a moving commentary on the dramatic events of the Passion story, providing the perfect opportunity for reflection.
During the liturgical sequence we will hear one of the composer's greatest works, his Lamentations of Jeremiah, full of poignant harmonies and vibrant textures. Alongside this come other Tallis gems such as Sancte Deus and Miserere nostri. Here is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the wonderful music of the great Tudor composer.
