Spem in Alium: Queen's Jubilee Charity Concert
A Celebration of the Queen's Jubilee with a difference!

Unicorn Singers and Welsh Camerata have teamed up to honour our Queen with glorious music to match her equally glorious reign.
The highlight of this concert will be a rare performance of the famous 40-part "Spem in Alium" by Thomas Tallis, widely regarded as the finest musical achievement of the first great Elizabethan age in the 16th century.
This sensational piece offers a unique audiosonic experience to listeners as Tallis weaves colossal textures in what can only be described nowadays as surround-sound!
As a sequel to Tallis the concert also focuses on music performed at the present Queen's Coronation in 1953, which heralded a second Elizabethan golden age: such works as Parry's rousing "I was glad", Wesley's "Thou shalt keep them in perfect peace", together with Vaughan Williams's "O taste and see" and his setting of the Old Hundredth hymn, "All people that on earth do dwell". Referencing both Elizabethan ages we hear the Choral Dances from Britten's opera "Gloriana", also written in 1953 in celebration of the coronation.
The concert, organised by Steve Marshall in conjunction with the Lord Lieutenant of Gwent, Robert Aitken, will prove a very special way to celebrate the Jubilee and all proceeds will be directed to the Disasters Emergency Committee funds. Early booking is advised
