Eucharist Service for Petertide

St Peter's Church, Llanbedr

Sunday 30th June at 10am

The Feast day of St. Peter is fast approaching and will be celebrated at Llanbedr Church by the choir with a special service featuring the glorious music of William Byrd.

His sublime 4 part mass will form the central focus of a musical sequence that will also include the composer's beautiful motets Tu es Petrus (Thou art Peter) and Ave verum corpus.

The mass was appropriately written at a time when the Catholic Church was undergoing persecution in Elizabethan England and contains some of Byrd's most poignant music. The motet Tu es Petrus is also something of a classic where the composers' soaring lines represent in sound the building up of the church.

A visiting preacher, Rev. Professor John Nolland, of Trinity College, Bristol, will preach the sermon; the Bishop of Lahore, Rt. Rev. Irfan Jamil will preside, and children of all ages will be catered for with a puppet making workshop in the Village Hall, which will be led by Fagner Gastaldon of Puppet Soup, who is the new Children's Worker in the Vale of Grwyney, so there will be something for everyone!
